From 15 MAY 2026, EANS’s AIS SWIM services are operational. The services comprise the Aeronautical Information Feature Request Service, Aeronautical Aerodrome Map Request Service and Digital NOTAM Subscription and Request Service.
On 16 JUN 2026, EANS issued Estonia’s first digital NOTAM. This marks an important step from text-based NOTAM information exchange to structured and machine-readable data exchange, supporting improved data quality, faster use in operational systems and a more harmonised exchange of aeronautical information.
The Digital NOTAM service allows a consumer to obtain dynamic aeronautical information in accordance with the Digital NOTAM specification, either by subscription or by direct request. The service supports the following AIXM 5.1.1 event scenarios:
- SAA.ACT;
- SAA.NEW;
- AD.CLS;
- AD.LIM;
- RWY.CLS;
- RWY.LIM;
- OBS.NEW.
To use the services, the consumer must be authenticated and authorised. Detailed information on service descriptions, terms of use, interfaces and technical specifications is available in the SWIM registry.
For the Digital NOTAM service, a consumer can subscribe to the desired event scenarios and receive updates via an AMQP message stream; direct requests are also possible.
The Aeronautical Information Feature Request Service enables queries to the EANS AIM database for aeronautical data such as aerodromes, airspaces, navigation aids, obstacles and ATS routes.
The Aeronautical Aerodrome Map Request Service allows requests for aerodrome map layers, geospatial data and charts via standard OGC interfaces.
The introduction of digital NOTAMs strengthens Estonia’s position in the digitalisation of European aeronautical information and confirms EANS’s role as a leader in practical, standards-based innovations that reach operational use.
According to Tatjana Armulik, Head of the EANS aeronautical information department, the adoption of digital NOTAMs helps provide faster, more accurate services that meet European requirements.
The project forms part of the European ACADIA initiative, which aims to accelerate the availability of digital aeronautical data and harmonise aeronautical services across Europe. It also enables integration with the Europe-wide SWIM (System Wide Information Management) framework, which becomes mandatory in the European Union from 2026.
